CM Punjab Hamza Shahbaz requests federal govt to restrict sugar export

KARACHI: On Wednesday, Chief Minister (CM) Punjab Hamza Shahbaz inaugurated the CM’s price dashboard for online monitoring of prices of essential commodities and price control activities in each district, saying the Government of Punjab would write a formal letter to the federal government for not permitting sugar export.

The CM will personally monitor the performance of districts for price control through the dashboard on a daily basis. Online monitoring of the performance of price control committees at the district level has also begun. A meeting was held at Model Town to review the price control mechanism, which was chaired by CM Hamza Shahbaz.

Through a video hookup, commissioners and deputy commissioners from all of the districts were able to join the meeting. The CM gave the administrative officers the required directives for pricing control and providing alleviation to the public.

The CM told the meeting that price control in their respective areas would be tied to the performance of DCs, ACs, and price control committees. Officers who do well will be praised, but poor performers may face consequences, he said.

The CM directed ministers, political assistants, and political partners to perform field visits, noting that ministers and political assistants will be assigned districts to visit. The common guy is in distress, and we must help them by working together, he stated.

The CM stated that the government would boost the wheat quota for well-functioning mills, and that administrative personnel have been asked to ensure that subsidised flour is available at all times. He also requested that the province’s urea fertiliser supply method be made more efficient. He stated that every effort will be made to help the general public.

Given the impending shortage of tomatoes and onions, he suggested that a strategy be put in place ahead of time to cope with the crisis; he added that political allies and administrative officers should go into the field to gather information.
